Post-Doctoral Fellowships
The Graduate School of Development seeks to recruit two post-doctoral fellows: one fellowship is tenable at the Mountain Societies Research Institute (MSRI), Khorog, Tajikistan, the other at the Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA), Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The positions are supported by the SDGnexus Network led by the Centre for International Development and Environmental Research, Justus Liebig University, Giessen and by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ)
Duration: 31 May 2020 – 31 December 2024 (with a possible transition to full-time employment)

Summary of the Position
The SDGnexus Network, consisting of partners from Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, provides a common research framework related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN) and aims to analyze synergies and trade-offs among individual SDGs (SDG nexus analysis).
The Post-Doctoral Fellows will contribute to current team-based research projects, initiate new research, assume teaching and/or outreach responsibilities and assist in grant proposal writing and reporting.
Fields of Research
Mountain Societies Research Institute (Khorog, Tajikistan): natural resources management, environmental and earth sciences, pedology, soil-water management, natural hazards, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Institute of Public Policy and Administration (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan): agricultural or development or environmental economics, food security, sustainable economic development.

Required Qualifications
*Completed PhD or Candidate of Sciences degree within the last five years in a relevant field
*Relevant spatial and statistical analysis skills
*Willingness to work in new and challenging environments
*Demonstrated ability to work in teams
*Ability to develop and manage research and development projects
*Understanding of key focal areas of MSRI or IPPA in the respective regions of Central Asia
Languages
Fluency in oral and written English. Competency in Russian is an advantage, as is knowledge of Kyrgyz or Tajik.
