Many people in Tajikistan are concerned about how the situation will develop in Afghanistan after the contingent of NATO troops withdraws in 2014 and what impact this will have on Tajikistan. Afghanistan is a neighbor of Tajikistan, connected with it by unbreakable bonds that include language, the ethnic kinship of a considerable part of the population, religion, culture, and history. Accordingly, developments in Afghanistan affect Tajikistan, which give rise to certain worries. This report is based on material from inter-views with experts and with members of central and local elites in Tajikistan and on data from a public opinion poll.
