Uzbek jihadists in Syria take advantage of low-cost digital media tools to pro-mote intense and successful operations in a way those fighting in Afghanistan and Pakistan never could.
Uzbek jihadist groups in Syria present themselves on the front line of the global resistance to “anti-Muslim oppression”: it is no surprise that these arguments appear to be more compelling to disenfranchised Central Asians already expe-riencing everyday discrimination as migrant laborers in Russia or even in Tur-key.
The IMU’s narrow focus on Pakistani internal politics and operations in Paki-stan fails to resonate with a large Uzbek audience online.
