The submission system for the CESS Regional Conference in Tashkent this June is now open. The deadline is 23.59 Eastern Standard Time, 29 February 2020.
Where can I submit my proposal?
We are accepting submissions for:
- Individual papers
- Pre-organized panels
- Author-critic forums
- Book-in-progress panels
- Roundtables
- Workshops
The submission forms can be found at https://www.centraleurasia.org/conferences/regional/#submit
What information do I need to provide when I submit a proposal?
Please read the full requirements for each submission type; what follows below is a summary.
Individual papers: You will first need to choose the theme that is most appropriate for your paper. A list of these will be displayed in the submission system. You will then need to enter your contact data, a paper title, and type or paste in an abstract (250-400 words). You may find our guidelines for writing abstracts helpful. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
Pre-organized panels (panels, forums, roundtables, workshops):
This is a multi-step process. Do not leave your submission until the last minute!
Pre-organized panel proposals are initially submitted by one person who is designated the panel convener. The convener must submit: her/his contact information; a proposed panel title; the names (with institutions) of the proposed Chair and Discussant; an abstract (250-400 words) explaining the rationale for the panel and how the papers/participant roles are interrelated; and a theme/subject (selected from a list) most appropriate for the panel.
Once the proposal is entered into the system, the convener will be emailed a weblink; this may take up to 3 business days. The convenor must share the link with the panel’s presenters/participants so that each can enter their contact information, paper title and (for panels only) abstract (250-400 words). No abstract is required for forum, roundtable or workshop participants. It is the responsibility of the convenor to ensure that the presenters/participants upload their information by the deadline. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
In which language can I submit a proposal?
Individual paper submissions are accepted only in English.
Pre-organized panels: If one or more presenters wishes to present in a language other than English, the convener should indicate the proposed language of presentation in the panel abstract. Abstracts submitted in another language should be accompanied by an English language translation or summary (see also: CESS Conference Language Policy).
When will I find out if my proposal is accepted?
Decisions on proposals will be emailed in early April 2020.
Decisions are emailed to the submitter only. So, if you are a co-author of an individual paper, or part of a pre-organized panel, please check with the submitting author/panel convenor.
Hurray! Ura! My proposal was accepted. What should I do now?
Detailed information can be found at https://www.centraleurasia.org/conferences/regional/#nextsteps. Please read this!
But in brief, there are three main things to do:
1) Renew your membership of CESS (if you have not already done so) by May 24, 2020. Current membership is mandatory for conference presenters.
2) Register for the conference by the presenter registration deadline of May 24, 2020. Conference registration is a separate process from membership and is also mandatory for conference presenters. Any presenters not registered by the presenter registration deadline will be removed from the conference program.
3) Start preparing your conference contribution!
Is CESS offering funding for this conference?
No. We are not able to offer any kind of funding e.g. travel grants, registration fee waivers, free accommodation etc for this conference.
However, both CESS membership and the conference registration fee rates are differentiated to account for different incomes. The lowest rates are heavily discounted.
I have a question…
You should find the answer on the conference website: https://www.centraleurasia.org/conferences/regional.
If you still have a question that isn’t answered on the website, please email the CESS Administrative Coordinator.
