The Central Asia Program and the Embassy of Uzbekistan invite you to a movie night!
September 6 @ 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
On September 11, 2001, Flight 101 was a routine flight from Tashkent to Birmingham to New York. The passengers, a diverse mix of Jews, African Americans, Pakistanis, Uzbeks, Russians, and Indians, represented the varied tapestry of humanity. They were businesspeople and workers, each with their own stories, never anticipating that on that fateful day, their lives would intertwine in an extraordinary way. As the tragic events of 9/11 unfolded and the U.S. airspace closed, Flight 101, along with nearly 700 other flights, was forced to divert. With fuel running low and no viable options for landing, the captain made a bold and life-saving decision. Defying the odds, he safely landed the plane at a Canadian military base in Goose Bay, preserving the lives of all on board. This film tells the gripping story of that day, highlighting the unity and resilience of ordinary people in the face of unimaginable adversity.
The film will be screened in Uzbek with English subtitles.
The film was directed by Akrom Shakhnazarov, who is also the author of films such as The Heart is Crying (2013) and Together (2016).
