“Rooted in Felt” International Textile Exhibit Opening Reception
10 September, 2017 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Believed to be one of the world’s oldest textiles, felt was first made over 2,500 ago by the nomadic peoples of Central Asia. It’s a multifunctional non-woven fabric used for making rugs, felt tents, accessories, painting, and sculptures. Inspired by their traditional roots the artists create modern and relevant artwork connecting the past and the future. The artworks presented include contemporary and traditional rugs, wall panels, fashion design, and other objects made with felt. This exhibit brings together artisans from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Russia.
Please join us for the opening reception on September 10. There will be music, food and a fashion show.
International Textile Exhibit will be held from September 9 – 22, 2017
*The exhibit is organized by Voices. Voices is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization with a mission to use the power of art to connect people of varied communities, thereby spreading cultural awareness and sparking both individual and group creativity.
