The most famous Kazakh writer, Mukhtar Auezov (1897-1961) had a tremendous influence on the formation of modern Kazakh literature and nation-building. His masterpiece, The Path of Abai, has shaped many generations of Kazakh intellectuals. Several of Auezov’s epic novels and theatrical adaptations have been widely translated and influenced neighboring Central Asian countries as well as the whole of Soviet literature.
