The Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University will host the third annual Graduate Student Conference on Central Asia from April 18 to 20, 2025. This event offers graduate students, including master’s students, a unique platform to present their research, receive feedback from peers and experts, and engage in meaningful discussions about Central Asia’s past, present, and future.
We are inviting proposals under two main themes:
- The Soviet Modernization Project in Central Asia: Contradictions, Legacies, and Narratives
This theme explores the complexities of Soviet modernization efforts in Central Asia, examining the contradictions, legacies, and narratives that emerged from seven decades of industrialization, social engineering, and decolonization. - Central Asia 2025: Quo Vadis?
This theme assesses the development trajectories of Central Asian states over the past three decades, their regional and global challenges, and the role of external factors like climate change and great power rivalries.
We welcome contributions from a variety of disciplines, including history, anthropology, sociology, political science, religious studies, and more.
